About me
Katy Merriman is a singer/actor/director and current Artistic Director of the Des Moines Playhouse. Before moving to Iowa in 2013, she performed with the Indianapolis Symphony, the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir, and the Indianapolis Opera; and served as interim managing director of Summer Stock Stage. In Des Moines, she performed in numerous roles on stage with Iowa Stage Theatre Company, the Repertory Theatre of Iowa, the Des Moines Symphony, and the Des Moines Playhouse. Local performance and directing credits include Once (Girl); Native Gardens (co-directed with Lorenzo Sandoval); Elephant and Piggie’s We Are in a Play; A Love Offering (co-directed with Tiffany Johnson); The Glass Menagerie (Laura); King Lear (Cordelia); Our Town (Emily); and Fun Home (Director, Iowa Stage Theatre Company). Katy served as an adjudicator for the Monologue Competition at AACT’s 2023 National Festival and will chair AACT’s National YouthFest this summer in Des Moines.
